Clinical Pharmicist

Dawn Havrda, Pharm.D., BCPS

Dr. Havrda is the clinical pharmacist at Amherst Family Practice and a professor at Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy. She received her bachelor’s of science degree in Pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Texas. Dr. Havrda is also a board-certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist.

 

Dr. Havrda provides a variety of services at Amherst Family Practice for the healthcare providers and patients. She is available to answer drug-related questions for the healthcare providers dealing with choosing therapy, side effects, drug-drug interactions and so on to assure appropriate medication use for patients. In addition, Dr. Havrda meets with patients for a variety of other reasons at the request of the healthcare providers to provide education and counseling, follow-up on various disease states, assurance of appropriate medication use, and so on. She performs chart reviews and meets with patients taking multiple medications to assure their drug therapy is providing the expected benefits without any unwanted effects. Dr. Havrda works with patients taking blood-thinners, in conjunction with their physician, to assure safe and proper use of the drug. She also visits with patients without drug insurance, at the request of the healthcare providers, to help find means to obtain their medications at the lowest cost possible. In addition, Dr. Havrda meets with patients for a variety of other reasons at the request of the healthcare providers to provide education and counseling, follow-up on various disease states, assurance of appropriate medication use, and so on. The services provided by the clinical pharmacist continue to expand at Amherst Family Practice and are an integral part of the health care team.

Dr. Havrda can also be reached for questions or concerns by calling Amherst Family Practice.
